Alongside this delightful recipe, I’ll delve into how I maintain optimal health throughout my pregnancy, with a special focus on daily prenatal vitamin supplementation.

Healthy grilled salmon served with green veggies, couscous.

One of the greatest joys I find in cooking is the ability to craft healthy meals that are not only beneficial for my body but also incredibly enjoyable to eat. This Grilled Salmon recipe is a testament to that philosophy. It’s remarkably easy to prepare, bursting with vibrant flavors, and utterly irresistible. The moment it came off the grill, I couldn’t resist sneaking a piece, savoring each bite with an enthusiastic nod of approval. It’s truly a culinary delight that perfectly balances health with flavor, making healthy eating during pregnancy an absolute pleasure.

The Cornerstone of Pregnancy Wellness: Essential Prenatal Vitamins

As a pregnant woman, prioritizing nutrient intake every single day is non-negotiable for me. While a balanced diet forms the foundation, ensuring I get all the necessary vitamins and minerals means taking my prenatal vitamins without fail. My go-to choice, which I consistently purchase from Sam’s Club, is Nature Made® Prenatal Multi + DHA (200mg) 150ct. softgels. These softgels are a powerhouse of essential nutrients, meticulously formulated to support both mother and baby throughout pregnancy and even during pre-conception planning.

Nature Made prenatal vitamin review

Each softgel is packed with a comprehensive blend of vitamins and minerals vital for this unique stage of life. This includes crucial components such as Folic Acid, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Iodine, Vitamin B12, and Vitamin D3.† Folic Acid, in particular, is critical for supporting healthy brain and spinal cord development in the fetus, especially during the early stages of pregnancy. Many healthcare professionals recommend starting folic acid supplementation at least one month before conception and continuing through the first trimester. Furthermore, the inclusion of 200mg of DHA is a significant advantage. DHA, an Omega-3 fatty acid, is instrumental in helping to support fetal brain and eye development.† In previous pregnancies, I often found myself needing to take a separate iron supplement in addition to my prenatal multi, which could be cumbersome. Nature Made® Prenatal Multi + DHA simplifies this by combining all these essential nutrients into one easy-to-swallow softgel, making my daily routine much more streamlined. It’s comforting to know that I’m providing my body and my baby with comprehensive support from a trusted brand. In fact, Nature Made® proudly holds the title of the #1 Pharmacist recommended vitamin and supplement brand.*

Beyond Supplements: The Joy of Healthy Home-Cooked Meals

While daily prenatal vitamins are a cornerstone of my pregnancy wellness plan, they are complemented by a commitment to cooking and enjoying wholesome, healthy food. This Grilled Salmon and Marinated Greens recipe perfectly embodies that commitment. It’s a truly nourishing meal that, despite its incredible health benefits, tastes anything but “healthy” in the bland sense. Every single bite is a symphony of flavors, making it a meal I genuinely look forward to.

Crafting the Perfect Grilled Salmon: Simple Yet Flavorful

The beauty of this grilled salmon lies in its simplicity and the depth of flavor achieved with minimal effort. To prepare the salmon, I start with fresh fillets, typically with the skin on for extra flavor and to prevent sticking. I lightly rub both sides of each fillet with a touch of olive oil, which helps the seasonings adhere and promotes a beautiful sear. The seasoning blend is straightforward yet incredibly effective: a generous sprinkle of salt, freshly ground black pepper, pungent garlic powder, and aromatic dried basil. These simple ingredients work in harmony to elevate the natural richness of the salmon, creating a taste profile that is both fresh and deeply satisfying.

Dry marinade for Grilled Salmon

Once seasoned, the salmon is ready for grilling. Whether you use an outdoor grill for that classic smoky char or a grill pan indoors for convenience, the process is quick and yields fantastic results. I prefer a grill pan for ease, heating it to a medium-high temperature and brushing it with a tiny bit more olive oil to ensure the fish doesn’t stick. The fillets are then placed onto the hot pan, skin-side down first if applicable, and cooked for just 3-4 minutes per side. This quick cooking time ensures the salmon remains wonderfully flaky, moist, and tender on the inside, with a perfectly seared exterior. The subtle herbal notes from the basil, combined with the garlic and basic salt and pepper, create an enticing aroma that fills the kitchen and promises a delicious meal.

Elevating the Meal: Fresh Marinated Greens

No delicious salmon dish is complete without a vibrant side, and my marinated greens are the ideal accompaniment. This simple side dish offers a refreshing contrast to the rich salmon, adding a delightful crunch and a burst of fresh flavor. I typically use a mix of baby lettuces, but any tender greens like spinach or arugula would work beautifully. The magic happens with a light yet incredibly flavorful dressing.

The marinade is a sweet and tangy concoction made from high-quality extra virgin olive oil, a touch of golden honey for sweetness, and bright, freshly squeezed lemon juice for that essential zesty kick. A pinch of salt and a dash of black pepper round out the flavors, creating a dressing that truly enhances the natural taste of the greens without overpowering them. The greens are simply tossed in this dressing just before serving, ensuring they remain crisp and vibrant. The combination of the succulent grilled salmon and these zesty, fresh greens creates a harmonious balance on the plate, making for a truly satisfying and wholesome meal.

Grilled salmon and veggies

For those looking for a more substantial and completely filling meal, I often serve this grilled salmon and marinated greens alongside a portion of fluffy couscous, sometimes topped with a simple, savory tomato sauce. This addition turns the meal into an even more robust and comforting experience, ensuring I feel fully satisfied and energized. And I’m pretty sure my baby approves of all the delicious nutrients too!
