Hello, wonderful readers! I must sincerely apologize for the delay in getting this week’s “Here’s What’s Up” post out to you. Life has been a whirlwind, and I’m currently typing this from the comfort (and exhaustion) of my bed, phone in hand. Isn’t modern technology a lifesaver sometimes? I often wonder how we ever managed without it! How is the year unfolding for you so far? For me, it’s been undeniably hectic, a beautiful chaos, but amidst it all, I truly believe it’s all good. Each busy moment, each small triumph, adds to the rich tapestry of our lives.
One of the biggest shifts in my routine lately involves the school run. I’ve taken on the role of chauffeur, driving my daughter to and from school every single day. And let me tell you, that’s no small feat, especially when you’re navigating the biting cold and relentless snow with not one, not two, but three lively children! The daily logistics are a challenge – managing coats, hats, gloves, and boots, all while keeping up with appointments and countless other obligations. Oh, how I despise this lingering cold! It truly makes even the simplest tasks feel like an uphill battle. Yet, through it all, there’s a certain resilience that kicks in, a determination to keep moving forward for the sake of these precious little ones.
Embracing the Little Joys: A Weekend Adventure
Despite the frosty weather and demanding schedules, we made sure to carve out some special family time this past weekend. We bundled up and headed to the Children’s Museum, a place where imagination runs wild and laughter echoes through the halls. It was exactly what we needed! The girls had an absolutely fantastic time, truly the time of their lives. Seeing their faces light up with excitement and wonder made every ounce of effort worthwhile. These are the moments we live for, the memories we’ll cherish long after the snow melts and the cold recedes.

It’s these seemingly little things – an outing to a museum, a shared laugh, a moment of discovery – that bring so much happiness into our children’s lives. As parents, our greatest joy often comes from witnessing their pure delight. I’m incredibly grateful we could create such beautiful smiles and lasting memories this weekend. These experiences not only entertain but also foster learning, creativity, and invaluable bonding among family members. Investing in these moments, even when life feels overwhelmingly busy, is truly an investment in our family’s well-being and happiness. It teaches our children the importance of connection, exploration, and finding wonder in the world around them, even if it’s just a local museum on a chilly Saturday afternoon.
A Fresh Start: My Wellness Journey Begins
In other news, and this is a huge one for me, I have finally started working out! Praise the Lord! For what feels like an eternity, I’ve procrastinated on my decision to embrace a regular exercise routine. This step, therefore, isn’t just about moving my body; it’s a giant leap forward in my commitment to self-care and long-term health. To make it more fun and keep us accountable, I started this journey with my older girls. We found some fantastic YouTube videos tailored for home workouts, and it’s been surprisingly enjoyable. We laugh, we sweat, and we encourage each other, turning what could be a chore into a shared experience.
Beyond the physical activity, I’ve also embarked on a dietary shift. This week, I proudly made my first ever veggie-packed smoothie. It was surprisingly delicious and a fantastic way to incorporate more nutrients into my diet. This isn’t just a fad; I am truly aiming at cultivating a healthy lifestyle and, perhaps even more importantly, teaching my children to do the same. My motivation runs deep: I do not want my body to falter or become weary before I have accomplished the purpose I believe I’m meant to fulfill on this earth. Our physical well-being is intrinsically linked to our capacity to live fully, to serve, and to thrive. By making these healthy choices now, I hope to ensure I have the energy and vitality to pursue my goals and be present for my family for many years to come.
Building healthy habits as a family creates a ripple effect. When children see their parents prioritize fitness and nutrition, they are more likely to adopt these values themselves. We’re exploring different types of workouts, from high-energy dance routines to stretching and strength building, making sure there’s something for everyone. This shared commitment to wellness is not just about physical health; it’s about fostering discipline, resilience, and a positive body image. It’s about understanding that taking care of ourselves is not selfish, but essential for a vibrant and fulfilling life.
Confronting the “Elephant in the Family Room”: Lessons from Church
Meanwhile, during our recent church service, we delved into a profound and incredibly relevant topic: “dealing with the elephant in the family room.” The sermon was a powerful reminder and a much-needed admonition to identify these “elephants” – those unspoken problems, unresolved conflicts, or glaring issues that everyone in the family knows exist but no one openly addresses. These silent burdens can weigh heavily on family dynamics, creating tension, resentment, and distance.
The message resonated deeply: God desires for us to have strong, healthy, and thriving families. But achieving this strength often requires courageously acknowledging and confronting these difficult issues head-on. An “elephant” could manifest in many forms: communication breakdowns, financial stress, unaddressed grief, simmering resentments, differing parenting styles, or even unhealthy habits that impact everyone. Ignoring them doesn’t make them disappear; it merely allows them to grow larger and more disruptive over time.
The sermon encouraged us to initiate open, honest, and loving conversations about these “elephants.” This process isn’t easy, but it’s vital for healing and growth. It involves active listening, empathy, a willingness to understand different perspectives, and a commitment to finding solutions together. Sometimes, it might even require seeking external help, such as family counseling, to navigate complex issues. The goal is to move from a place of unspoken tension to one of mutual understanding, forgiveness, and renewed connection. By identifying and strategically addressing these challenges, families can dismantle barriers, foster deeper bonds, and build a foundation of genuine strength and resilience that will serve them well through all of life’s seasons.
This week has truly been a testament to navigating life’s multifaceted journey – from the everyday challenges of winter commutes and busy schedules to the joyful moments of family outings, the transformative steps in personal wellness, and the essential work of fostering healthy family dynamics. It’s a constant dance between managing the external demands and nurturing our inner selves and our closest relationships. Ultimately, it’s about finding balance, embracing growth, and cherishing the beautiful, complex adventure that is life.
Well, that’s what’s up with me and my family this week! I hope you found some resonance in our experiences and perhaps even some inspiration for your own journey. Until next time, stay well, stay warm, and keep finding those moments of joy and purpose!
